We provide essential training for birth workers and aspiring midwives of color to serve families in their communities.

  • Legacy Birth Assistant Training is more than just a course—it’s an immersive, retreat-style experience designed for those who want to learn, connect, and grow in a supportive, culturally-affirming space. Led by midwives and student midwives of color, and founded by an experienced midwife and herbalist, this training blends traditional midwifery, spirituality, and herbalism with hands-on birthwork skills. Participants will learn unique practices like umbilical cord burning, herbal remedy-making, and lotus birth, all while co-housed in beautiful, well-appointed homes with amenities like a pool, hot tub, beach, and nature trails. A private chef prepares every meal, so you can focus on learning, networking, and deepening your craft without distractions. This is more than a skills weekend—it’s a transformative experience that nurtures both skill and spirit.

  • Our training programs are open to birth workers and aspiring midwives of color who are passionate about providing culturally competent care in out-of-hospital settings. We intentionally limit our offerings to BIPOC individuals and other people of color.

  • Our curriculum focuses on essential skills for assisting midwives at births in out-of-hospital settings. This includes didactic education, skills training, demonstrations, and simulations. Topics covered include communication with expectant families, monitoring vital signs, preparing medications, assisting in obstetric emergencies, and more.

  • Participants gain essential skills and knowledge for assisting or serving as assistants and midwives in community settings. They also have the opportunity to network with other birth workers of color and receive ongoing support from our instructors after the training weekend.

  • Registration for our upcoming training event can be done through our website's ecommerce platform. However, there is an application process. Once you have been approved to register, you can enroll on the platform. We offer multiple ticket options, including early bird fees and payment plans through various Buy Now Pay Later Options.

  • We understand that financial barriers may prevent some individuals from participating in our training program. While we do not offer scholarships at this time, we encourage interested individuals to reach out to us to discuss potential options for financial assistance or payment plans.
